THE CANDLER HOTEL
Inspired by layers of history and diverse cultural influences, the historic Candler Building was re-imagined into a landmark hotel for Downtown Atlanta. The design of which recently won the Gold Key award for Best Hotel Upper Midscale.
Atlanta is known as the “city in a forest,” which helped define the overall design. Guests find themselves transitioning from dark to light, embracing the open, airy spaces and retreating to the more intimate areas of the hotel. Floral motifs are found throughout, taking inspiration from the past, but showcased in a way that makes a modern statement.
The historic envelope showcases a new design that is both timeless and modern, allowing the past to seamlessly blend with the present, honoring the context of place, and embracing the future of Downtown Atlanta.
MEETING SPACES
Reminiscent of dimly lit libraries of the past, the offices take on an elevated look and feel. Non-traditional meeting spaces offer flexible opportunities for business or social gatherings. Comfortable furniture and built-in cabinetry encourage the visitor to feel at home in the space.
The ballroom is located in an annex building, which was originally a carriage house that pre-dates the Candler Building. Transforming a space with only one right angle into a classically coffered and paneled was one of the most complex architectural challenges that I’ve had to solve.
GUESTROOMS & SUITES
Guests transition from the moody corridors to the light filled guestrooms. A hint of southern charm is reflected in classic details layered with modern fixtures and furnishings.
