THE SEA RANCH LODGE

GUEST SERVICES | MEETING SPACES

In 1968 the Guest Rooms in the North Building at The Sea Ranch Lodge were constructed. The Lodge accounts for some of the oldest buildings in the Sea Ranch community and is recognized globally as a mid-century architectural icons.

For the renovation of the North Building, we converted an existing public restroom into a small guest services lounge, that acts as a concierge, self-service business center and honor bar. And three of the rooms were converted into meeting spaces, to provide greater function and flexibility to the hotel.

GUESTROOMS

The design concept for the seventeen guestrooms consisted of three key Sea Ranch principles: community, simplicity, and nature predominates.

Every piece of furniture was designed to complement the mid-century architecture and draw your eye to the vast landscape just outside the windows. Exposed joinery details, clean construction, and monochromic finishing reinforce the concept of living in harmony with natural elements.

Subtle pops of blue were used to create visual interest and to reflect the color of the surrounding ocean. Furniture was intentionally designed to be honest and clean, avoiding excessive ornamentation or unnecessary complexity. We wanted each guestroom to pay homage to the view and landscape by making the room feel like an integral part of the natural environment and architecture.

BATHROOMS

Throughout the project there was a commitment to sustainability, like prioritizing local craftsmen from Santa Cruz for the custom millwork, and manufacturing the textured blue tile in the bathrooms (made of 100% recycled materials) in the Bay Area.

Employing local artists, weavers, and craftsmen not only supports the local economy and gains a unique and authentic touch, but also reinforces a sense of community, cultural richness, and heritage.
